Trailer for A Monster Calls that was released to international markets by Entertainment One and Lionsgate.
Based on the award-winning children’s fantasy novel, 12-year-old Conor (Lewis MacDougall) attempts to deal with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness and the bullying of his classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales that explore courage, loss, and faith.
The idea behind A Monster Calls was conceived by Siobhan Dowd, who conceived the idea while battling terminal breast cancer beginning in 2004. Upon her death in 2007, author Patrick Ness agreed to come on to write it. Since its release in 2013, the novel has received tons of acclaim from readers and critics alike.
The shot in this A Monster Calls trailer showing a guy with glowing eyes is actually from the lead character's dreams, a constant theme in the film.
The music and the visuals in this international trailer for A Monster Calls does a helluva job showing off a taste of the emotional power (and raw power) that this film is likely to possess. The music is beautiful, and Liam Neeson's bass-pumped voice is damn near terrifying while also moving.
I can't help but think that the timing of this trailer has something to do with the recent release of the Rogue One teaser trailer, considering that Felicity Jones just saw her reputation soar; so it makes sense to show her off a bit after she was left out completely of the teaser trailer.
Focus Features and Lionsgate definitely have something good in their hands with this adaptation, and I'm so sold by this trailer that I've gone and purchased the book for some summer reading.
