The speculation pumped into overdrive at the turn of 2017 when director Shane Black began his production on The Predator. While he led a new cast with Logan's Boyd Holbrook, many wondered if the 1987 star Arnold Schwarzenegger would be back to reprise his part as Dutch in the franchise.
Speaking with Yahoo! Movies while doing the media rounds for his upcoming drama Aftermath, the 69-year old explained that he had been given a look at the material until he threw it out in disgust.
"They asked me, and I read it, and I didn't like it, whatever they offered," he asserted. "So I'm not going to do that, no. Except if there's a chance that they rewrite it, or make it a more significant role. But the way it is now, no, I won't do that."
Twins To Triplets In Comedy Sequel Idea
It was a lot easier to get film ideas made in the 1990s, seeing the odd couple themselves in Danny De Vito and Schwarzenegger pair up for the comedy Twins. Now the former Governor of California outlined that a sequel called Triplets is on the way with Eddie Murphy.
"Danny and I always ran around with the idea of Triplets, and that Eddie Murphy should be the triplet, because he is so different than we are — as much as Danny was different from me," he remarked. "When you saw Danny and I together, and you said that only the mother could tell us apart, people laughed. You didn’t really have to say much else. The same is also true with the idea of having Eddie Murphy be a part of the new picture. It’s called Triplets, and people go, wait a minute, how did this black guy get into the picture here? The way it’s explained in the movie is really funny — what happened with that experiment, and how many people’s sperm were used, and the things we didn’t know and only find out about when our mother passes away."
While that synopsis might not be everyone's cup of tea, Schwarzenegger says that the studio are busy getting it made.
"So Danny and Eddie Murphy and I — we believed in it 100%. And then Ivan (Reitman producer) believed in it 100%. So they’re writing it, and now everyone is enthusiastic about it. It will probably be done in the next month or two, and then hopefully we shoot it by this fall. It’s really exciting."
Conan 3 on the Cards for Arnie
Fronting the 1982 adventure classic Conan the Barbarian, Schwarzenegger would see none other than future Aquaman star Jason Momoa take on the role in the 2011 reboot. With talk around town intimates that the original Conan could come back as an older mentor to Momoa, the man himself admitted a return is appealing.
"Yes," he replied. "But those things are always complicated, because all of a sudden the rights are being sold to the Conan name, and the Robert E. Howard books. And then the question becomes, what is public domain, and what is not? So there’s all this debate. Two screenplays have been written, which means there are scripts that are available that are really good; they just have to be fine-tuned. As soon as they sort all that out, I think they can go and shoot a movie. But I would love to do another one, yes."
