Using state-of-the-art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.

It would seem that Christian Bale was destined to play a Biblical character sooner or later. The actor was sought by Darren Aronofsky to play the title role in Noah, a part later given to Russell Crowe. Joel Edgerton, on the other hand, might not have been the first choice for Ramses. Though the actor has experience with swordplay -- think King Arthur -- the role of "villain" was first passed by Oscar Isaac and Javier Bardem.
