Trailer for Passengers.
Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are two passengers on board a spaceship transporting them to a new life on another planet. The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination. As Jim and Aurora try to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction... only to be threatened by the imminent collapse of the ship and the discovery of the truth behind why they woke up.
The screenplay for this film was featured in the 2007 Blacklist; a list of the "most liked" unmade scripts of the year.
Several other actors were considered for the lead roles in this film before Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt were eventually finalized. The list included Reese Witherspoon, Rachel McAdams and Emily Blunt, plus Keanu Reeves.
Director Morten Tyldum has some prior experience being at the helm of a feature film, but not too much:
The Imitation Game
Headhunters
Fallen Angels
Buddy
I must say that based on this trailer, Passengers looks a lot better than I was expecting. We have seen an abundant amount of science fiction films lately and it seems that Hollywood is going this direction looking for unique stories. They were able to get 2 of the biggest movie stars on the planet to lead this film and that will definitely get audiences attention and now we get to see what unique perspective Writer Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) brings to the table.
I do like how they give us a bit of foreshadowing with the trailer opening up with a scene that likely takes place about third into the film. The two go on a "date" and we get to see Arthur (Michael Sheen) as their bartender and waiter. And just as the trailer is ready to go into the back story they flash a scene of Arthur's body and we see that he is in fact a robot. Then the trailer gives us more information on why they are in space and why they are the only two who woke up. The trailer has a great structure and flow.
There are two lines from the trailer that annoyed me and I loved. The annoying line comes from Jennifer Lawrene's character Aurora when Chris Pratt's character Jim says the ship is going to go and he has to do this and ends up risking his life. Aurora then says, "if you die I die"....too cheesy. But the trailer ends on a great line, "There's a reason we woke up early". Now I wanna know.
