Pete's Dragon Trailer (2016)

Trailer for Pete's Dragon.

A reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film, “Pete’s Dragon” is the adventure of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who just so happens to be a dragon. “Pete’s Dragon” stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Oakes Fegley, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban, Oona Laurence and Oscar winner Robert Redford. The film, which is directed by David Lower, is written by Lowery & Toby Halbrooks based on a story by Seton I. Miller and S.S. Field and produced by Jim Whitaker, p.g.a., with Barrie M. Osborne serving as executive producer.

For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon.

The original Pete's Dragon (1977) received mixed to positive reviews. The film was successful to some degree. In 1978, it was ranked at seventeen on Variety's hit list. Critic Leonard Maltin observed that Disney made several attempts to recreate the appeal and success of Mary Poppins (1964), and that Pete's Dragon did not come close on that score.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the 1977 film has a 48% approval score based on 23 reviews, with an average rating of 4.8/10.

On September 19, 2014, Disney set Oakes Fegley and Oona Laurence to star as Pete and Natalie. On October 16, Robert Redford was in early talks to play a local storyteller, involving dragons that no one believes. On November 20, Bryce Dallas Howard was in talks for the female lead role to play a forest ranger who finds the boy and doesn't believe his stories about a dragon. On January 7, 2015, Wes Bentley joined the cast of the film. On January 9, Michael C. Hall was also added to the cast. On January 29, Karl Urban replaced Hall to join the cast for his role

As a kid, I loved Pete's Dragon and can remember watching it numerous times. So, when I heard they were remaking this classic, I thought why? And now that we have a teaser trailer and this new trailer, I still think why?

In case you are not familiar with the original, watch Pete's Dragon (1977) Trailer and get a feel for this classic Disney film. The original film contained soft natured feel coupled with a great humorous tone. It also had a sense of adventure plus a musical side. This remake, which they are calling a re-imagining, which is neither, does not contain any of these elements. In fact, if someone had not told me the title of the film for this trailer and they never called the dragon Elliot, I probably could not guess this was Pete's Dragon. The only similarity between the two films is the dragon.
