Condensed trailer for Star Trek Beyond that was distributed only a few days before the film's theatrical release. Though short, the preview cycles through never before seen footage in rapid-fire fashion.
The media outlets confirmed that Sulu will be coming out of the closet for this installment of Star Trek, causing not exactly the response Paramount hoped from from the now openly gay George Takei. While the actor appreciated the sentiment, he found that making the character he once played gay might not have been the best fit since it requiring some altering of the character's backstory from the show. He's "delighted" that the LGBT community is making an appearance in the franchise, but having it be Sulu felt forced, and a dismissal of Gene Roddenberry's decision (back in the 60s) to not have Sulu be gay.
It's truly incredible what can be packed into just over sixty seconds. While Paramount is calling the latest trailer for Star Trek Beyond the final one, they should have called it the Spoiler one. After watching this, some viewers who are highly anticipating seeing this film opening weekend might feel like they've just been told spoilers from a friend who saw it first.
Then again, the visuals happen so quick that, if you only watch the condensed trailer once, you might only walk away with a sense that the film is going to be insane and nothing more. If you do start watching closely, you may be able to put some plot points together, so we recommend not doing that.
