Trailer for They're Watching, starring Brigid Brannagh and David Alpay.
When an American home improvement TV show visits a remote Eastern European village, the young crew thinks the lack of mocha lattés and free wifi will be the worst of their problems. But after their filming interrupts the superstitious villagers' private religious ritual, the situation takes a turn for the homicidal… and when the blood starts flowing, that's when things get really weird. With They're Watching, writer/directors Micah Wright and Jay Lender, cartoon industry survivors, turn a classic horror premise upside down to create a fresh, funny twist on the genre.
Moldova is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe that is bordered by Romania and Ukraine. Moldova became independent in 1991 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. In short--The country seems the perfect fit for a horror movie.
Being a fan of Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland, I admit that I do have a weakness for comedy-horror genre benders. The They're Watching trailer looks like a ton of fun, and the fact that it makes it a point to throw in some film and pop culture references just adds to that. And finishing the trailer with "We are Americans!" drives the joke home with glee.
It looks like there is a lot to like in They're Watching, though it remains hard to tell whether the visual effects are top notch or made-for-TV, considering that the trailer makes it a point to show the quickest of quick glimpses of the supernatural; or is it paranormal?
