American Reunion Red Band Trailer (2012)

Red band trailer for American Reunion shows never before seen footage focusing on R-rated content.

Eugene Levy is the only actor to be in all 8 American Pie films which include the direct-to-video sequels which revolve around a different set of characters. The poster for American Reunion is an homage to the original poster from the first film. Michelle’s (Alyson Hannigan) flute is replaced with a baby bottle, one of the subtle changes to fit the characters evolution.

This is the first film in the series in which Stifler (Seann William Scott) and his mom (Jennifer Coolidge) actually share a scene. Stifler only mentions her and most of her scenes are only with Finch prior to this film. And speaking of Finch, Eddie Kaye Thomas is actually the only actor from the film who actually graduated in 1999, the same year as his characters. The rest of the cast were a bit older.

American Reunion Red Band Trailer Screencap

There is probably a rush of nostalgia for you If you were a teenager when the first American Pie was released back in 1999 while watching the trailer for American Reunion. I was one of those teenagers and there is definitely a bittersweet finality to the series. Sure, there were countless direct-to-video imposters that carried the American Pie name, but it was the theatrical releases with the same cast that are the only ones that count. The third film, American Wedding really screwed up the series, giving Stifler way too much of a story when he truly is a one-trick-pony. However, it did give us early glimpses of January Jones which is its only redeeming quality.

American Reunion comes nine years later with most of the gang living their adult life. Some are married with kids while others are just working soul-crushing jobs. Not much else has changed; Jim and Michelle are still sexually charged if only slightly more frustrated, Kevin is still obsessed with Vicky and Stifler is still a loud-mouthed idiot. The trailer manages to show us that most, if not all of the cast, has returned, and it is a bit more poignant this time around as they face their thirties and accept the fact that they are not the same ridiculous group of high school friends. The trailer also includes a disgusting scene with Stifler defecating in some jerk’s cooler, but that is just Stifler so nothing new there.

For those who are fans of the original films, even those who started to lose interest, the trailer for American Reunion provides a nice jolt of energy to a played out franchise while also closing the door to a special time in pop culture.
