Featurette for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II shows the opening sequence to the film.
Removed at request of WB! Hopefully temporarily.
In the opening sequence, Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) questions Mr. Ollivander (John Hurt) about the Elder Wand, the same wand that Voldemort took from the grave of Dumbledore in the final moments of Part I. This scene is starkly different from the book.
In the book, Harry Potter asks Ollivander strictly about the wand, and makes no mention of the Deathly Hallows. Ollivander explains that there is one wand that continuously pops up in history and goes by a number of names including Deathstick, Wand of Destiny, or the Elder Wand; the same name used to describe the wand in "The Tales of Beetle The Bard." The fact that the wand has the same name in the book and in Ollivander's story is enough to convince Hermione that the Deathly Hallows must certainly be real. To prove his point, Harry asks Ollivander if he's ever heard mention of "The Deathly Hallows," something that leave the wand maker blank and asking what that has to do with wands. Harry also learns that wands change allegiance when a wizard successfully takes one from another. A fact that becomes important later on.
In the movie, Ollivander claims that he has heard of The Deathly Hallows, knows that the Elder Wand is one of them, and that the other two, the Resurrection Stone and the Cloak of Invisibility, could exist as well.
