Red Band Trailer for Why Him?.
Over the holidays, Ned (Bryan Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad and his family visit his daughter at Stanford, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (James Franco). The straight-laced Ned thinks Laird, who has absolutely no filter, is a wildly inappropriate match for his daughter. The one-sided rivalry-and Ned's panic level-escalate when he finds himself increasingly out of step in the glamorous high-tech hub, and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.
Why Him? is scheduled to be release on December 25, 2016 by 20th Century Fox, which was moved from the original date of November 11, 2016. The film took over the release date for Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children whose release date is now September 30, 2016.
Several of the filming locations include downtown Grand Rapids Michigan, Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance CA & Chatsworth CA.
You might be familiar with Director John Hamburg's previous feature films: Along Came Polly & I Love You Man. So, he is no stranger to comedy.
You gotta love the dual release of both a green band trailer and a red band trailer on the same day. Of course, the red band trailer is going to be better and give you a better sense for the film.
This outlandish comedy seems to have nailed the casting, especially with the two lead characters in Bryan Cranston and James Franco. Cranston is the perfect cranky over-protective father and Franco is always drawn to playing off the wall characters who love drugs (Spring Breakers, Pineapple Express, etc).
All in all, I think this looks like a fun film where we more than likely know what is going to happen in the end...lets just hope the comedy is good enough to sustain a whole movie.
