Belarusian director Victor Asliuk has made another starkly beautiful study of life in isolation. Mikalai lives alone in a nearly empty town on the edge of the forest. The old people die, the young people move to the city, but the wooden people, Mikalai’s own intricate creations, engage him in a simulation of village life that’s far from lonely.
