Larry Snyder (Jason Sudeikis) asks Jesse Owens (Stephan James) if he wants to win a gold medal, even if it means going to Berlin; a place where they don't allow much "colored folk." The good news is that Larry doesn't care much about Jesse's lifestyle, as long as he's willing to work hard and run.
