Trailer for A Street Cat Named Bob, starring Luke Treadaway.
Based on the international best selling book. The true feel good story of how James Bowen, a busker and recovering drug addict, had his life transformed when he met a stray ginger cat.
When you have a film based on a true story, it is sometimes best to use the exact thing the film is based on. While the crew picked up a number of cats to play the part of "Bob", it turns out that most of the footage featured Bob himself. He had a knack for the production process.
If you know of the true story, or have ever seen photos of the real James Bowen and Bob, you will agree that Luke Treadaway definitely looks the part.
Luke Treadaway is always that memorable side character in films -- he's got a particular look -- but still hasn't found his groove as the leading guy. Does the trailer for A Street Cat Named Bob sell him properly as a leading man? Yes, save for the fact that the film has to make him look more a drifter than People Magazine's sexiest man. But, if you can love him here, you can love him anywhere.
Which leads to another question. What sort of release will this adaptation be getting? We know of some limited runs and a wider release in the UK, but it remains to be seen how hard Sony (or whatever other distributor) will be pushing A Street Cat Named Bob domestically.
If there's one thing for certain, we're sure to like it more than that other cat movie.
