International Red Band Trailer for Bad Santa 2.
Bad Santa 2 returns Academy Award-winner Billy Bob Thirnton to the screen as everyone's favourite anti-hero, Willie Soke. Fueled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie teams up once again with his angry little sidekick, Marcus (Tony Cox), to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve.
Along for the ride is "the kid" - chubby and cheery Thurman Merman (Brett Kelly), a 250-pound ray of sunshine who brings out Willie’s sliver of humanity. Mommy issues arise when the pair are joined by Academy Award, Golden Globe and Emmy-winner Kathy Bates, as Willie’s horror story of a mother, Sunny Soke. A super butch super bitch, Sunny raises the bar for the gang’s ambitions, while somehow lowering the standards of criminal behavior. Willie is further burdened by lusting after the curvaceous and prim Diane, played by Emmy Award-nominee Christina Hendricks, the charity director with a heart of gold and libido of steel.
Bad Santa 2 had a hard time getting the sequel off of the ground and running.
In 2009, Billy Bob Thornton first mentioned the sequel to the 2003 crime comedy film Bad Santa, with an aim for release at Christmas 2011. On December 16, 2010, it was announced that Miramax and The Weinstein Company had signed on an agreement to develop sequels including Bad Santa's. On March 18, 2011, Weinstein confirmed the sequel and negotiations had begun with Thornton to return for the lead role. On July 14, 2011, Los Angeles Times confirmed that Dimension Films and other producers on the film including Geyer Kosinski hired two writers Johnny Rosenthal and John Phillips to work on the screenplay for the sequel.
The sequel had been scheduled to begin shooting in the fall 2012 for December 2013 release. On July 30, 2012, it was reported that Steve Pink was in early talks with the studio to rewrite and direct the film. On May 30, 2013, it was revealed that Miramax has hired Entourage creator Doug Ellin to rewrite the script and to possibly direct the sequel. In October 2014, Thornton confirmed that the sequel was in development and he admitted that it would not be as good as the first one. On October 29, 2015, it was confirmed that Thornton would return for Bad Santa 2 to play Willie, and that filming would begin in Montreal in January 2016 for a scheduled release of Christmas 2016.
Not only do we get a new trailer with tons of red band content but there is tons of new footage in this Red Band International Trailer. Being that the trailer was made for international audiences, they get away with more of the swearing and cussing and still show it without a red band warning since there is no nudity. But, this trailer here in the States is considered red band.
Kathy Bates sure does bring it in this trailer! Loved seeing more of her and what she bring to the filthy mother.
I am still torn on this film. I think it will have many funny parts but it will still be a let down. And now that we have 2 full red band trailers, it feels like we have pretty much seen the entire movie especially all of the crude humor you would expect to see at a Bad Santa movie. I think the studio has given us too much and now the incentive to rush to see this in theaters is just not there.
