Feature trailer for Murder on the Orient Express, starring Tom Bateman, Kenneth Branagh, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe and plenty more.
A lavish train ride unfolds into a stylish & suspenseful mystery. From the novel by Agatha Christie, Murder on the Orient Express tells of thirteen stranded strangers & one man's race to solve the puzzle before the murderer strikes again.
Kenneth Branagh has admitted that he has discovered a strange obsessions with 65mm film. 1996's Hamlet, in which he starred and directed, was shot on the format, and the director says watching some recent independent releases has inspired him to bring it back. He therefore shot Murder on the Orient Express on 65mm film.
During our last write-up we acknowledged that Angelina Jolie was approached to star in the film, but was given the boot when she demanded some script changes. While script changes is not exactly uncommon, the studio found the changes unnecessary for such a "small part."
When it comes to the selected cast, the film is loaded with talent. Not only has Judi Dench and Penelope Cruz both won an Oscar, Kenneth Branagh, Willem Dafoe, Michelle Pfeiffer and Johnny Depp are all Oscar nominees. Not too shabby!
Considering that the first trailer didn't give much at all -- save introduce the cast -- I'm thinking now we should have called it a teaser. But whatever, as this new trailer for Murder on the Orient Express shows plenty more, while also seeming to push the story's accelerator petal down a bit further. Hell, in terms of tempo, we are pretty much mashing our foot to the floor this time around.
Case in point. While the first go around we only quickly got a glimpse of Johnny Depp as Ratchett near the end, this time he is literally front and center. Obviously, he can't be the culprit, can he? Hard to say, but what is clear is Kenneth Branagh's production team has come a long way with the visuals since the last preview, conveying what looks to be a cinematic feast.
Hopefully no spoilers before the film's release, and count us in!
