After losing her job and learning that her husband has been unfaithful, a woman (Melissa McCarthy) hits the road with her profane, hard-drinking grandmother (Susan Sarandon).

As shown in the trailer, Tammy represents the most recent cameo appearance of Ben Falcone, Melissa McCarthy's real husband since 2005. Falcone has been seen going up against McCarthy's characters in Bridesmaids, where he plays the annoyed air marshall, and The Heat.

For Tammy, Falcone plays Keith, the fast food manager who fires Tammy in the opening sequence.

Susan Sarandon looks like she can easily hold her own against Melissa McCarthy in terms of comedic timing, even though Sarandon was not the first choice for the part of Grandma Pearl. Warner Bros first pitched Shirley MacLaine, who we feel would have also done well in this sort of role, but MacLaine had scheduling conflicts due to her stint on the popular television series Downton Abbey.
